Should I Choose Glass or Porcelain?

Glass Boards and Porcelain Boards have the same functionality – both exceptional writing surfaces. However, there are some key differences that you might want to consider before choosing one option over the other. For instance, what look are you going for in your space? A porcelain board provides efficiency and clarity. Glass boards offer a more high-end, design-oriented approach to whatever room they’re installed in. Furthermore, you might want to ask what you use the product for.

Porcelain has certain features that make it more convenient to use and collaborate. For instance, porcelain is better suited for applications requiring a writing surface in conjunction with screen projectors. This serves as both a low-glare projection surface and a collaborative writing surface. While you are working on it, someone can come right up behind you and work alongside you. Porcelain has been a standard in the educational space for over 30 years!

Glass, however, offers a much cleaner and modern look. Glass boards offer a sleek glossy finish. They are also long-lasting and provide high durability, similar to porcelain. However, because glass boards have a white backing, a shadow effect can take over the board and the display may become slightly distracting. Aarco devised a solution to this by incorporating a 1/8” thickness which mitigates those negative effects compared to the 1/4” thickness glass board.

In summary, porcelain boards are better suited for education environments, have a clearer display, and are guaranteed for a longer duration than glass boards (50 years v. 10 years). Glass boards are more durable, longer lasting, and contribute a better presence to whatever environment they’re in. The decision between a glass board or a porcelain board comes down to what you’re trying to accomplish with this piece of equipment. If all you need is a clear surface to write on and see easily, the porcelain marker board might be the way to go. However, if you want a functional writing surface that will look good in a modern space or professional area, you might want to consider a glass marker board. Either way, Aarco has a solution for both applications. Contact us today for greater support in your decision-making process!
